Mori Building

Exhibition Planning, Production, and Design for “The Real Truth about Sustainability”

At the newly opened Glass Rock Gallery inside Toranomon Hills, btrax led the planning, production, design, and spatial execution of the exhibition “The Real Truth about Sustainability: From ‘I Can't Do It Alone’ to ‘I Can Do It!” co-created with Mori Building Co., Ltd. The exhibition focused on the candid voices around sustainability, from the challenges faced by corporate sustainability professionals to the confusion and inconveniences individuals encounter in trying to lead sustainable lives. Through immersive visual and interactive experiences, the exhibition invited visitors to engage with sustainability as a personal issue, encouraging them to reflect and take action. Interactive elements, such as voting and comment walls, were incorporated to capture visitors’ voices and stimulate dialogue, creating a platform for both individuals and corporations to deepen their understanding of sustainability.

Challenges
  • We needed to clearly convey the purpose of Glass Rock as a space where businesses, government agencies, nonprofits, and individuals come together to develop real solutions to social challenges.

  • Design an impactful and memorable exhibition that leverages the unique spatial characteristics of the Glass Rock Gallery.

  • Develop content that helps visitors relate to the abstract concept of “sustainability” on a personal level and motivates them to take action.

Our Approach
  • In collaboration with Mori Building, we designed a visually compelling and interactive exhibition that appeals to those unfamiliar with sustainability.

  • Created a digital installation using data from 300 corporate integrated reports analyzed by VALUENEX, enhanced with visual guides and explanatory content to improve understanding.

  • Conducted group interviews with corporate sustainability professionals and visualized their honest thoughts and emotions through graphic recording.

  • We worked with Mori Building to create opportunities for visitors to engage by leaving sticker comments and voting on sustainability actions they want to pursue.

Concept Planning

Designing for Personal Engagement with Sustainability

Desk research revealed that while many are familiar with terms like “SDGs” or “sustainability,” they often don’t know what actions to take. Based on this insight, we created visitor personas and worked with Mori Building to develop a core concept—“The Real Truth about Sustainability”—to help visitors relate to the issue personally and take their first step toward change.

Digital Experience Design

Visualizing the Corporate Sustainability Landscape

Using data extracted from 300 corporate integrated reports and analyzed by VALUENEX, we designed a digital installation that incorporates visual guides and explanatory content. This helped visitors, especially those new to the topic, grasp what companies are currently prioritizing in their sustainability initiatives.

Graphic Recording

Uncovering the Real Stories of Corporate Sustainability Professionals

Through roundtable interviews with corporate sustainability professionals, we uncovered their authentic thoughts, struggles, and hopes related to their work. These were visualized using graphic recordings with illustrations and text, enabling visitors to connect with the real voices behind corporate sustainability.

Content Design

Showcasing Corporate and Personal Actions

btrax created panels introducing corporate case studies and individual sustainable actions curated by IDEAS FOR GOOD, a global media platform dedicated to social innovation.

Interaction Design

Creating Opportunities to Reflect and Take Action

Planned and designed in collaboration with Mori Building, the exhibition went beyond simply viewing the exhibition: it encouraged visitors to reflect on sustainability and take their first step toward action. Inside the gallery, visitors could write their own “honest thoughts on sustainability” on stickers and post them on the walls. Additionally, btrax created a voting area where visitors could express their commitment by selecting the sustainable actions they wanted to try.
